sunday windstorm
Jane's house sits near the top of a ravine in the Berkeley Hills, right around a corner from where the uphill climbing road takes a very sharp hairpin turn even further uphill. In this wide ravine, or gully, are stands of eucalyptus and redwood trees, soaring scores of feet in the air. Every single one of them sang all night and throughout this day, in voices like the arboreal equivalent of Valkyries or Vikings. When I woke up, I looked out the window and to the roadway that falls steeply downhill and saw it covered with leaves, pine needles, branches of all sizes, and long strips of eucalypti bark. Then, later on walking down to campus, I could see the whole Bay Area, and was surprised to see the landscape mottled and splotched with brown. It appears that dust and leaves have been churned up into air, not just in pockets but in wide regions of the land. The bay itself is slashed through with whitecaps, the color of the bay's surface from my vantage point up on the hillside and at an hour past noon, a dull titanium.
Kass here. ^.^ If you couldn't tell. Lloyd made me a Managing Editor. MWAHAHAHAHA--... okay, no, I'm trustworthy, really. ^.^ It's cause Lloyd nearly missed flipping his weblog last night and all of us were panicking, so I asked him if he wanted insurance. And HEEEEEEEERE it is! ^.^
Btw... in Hayward, the power to a whole area of signal lights is completely gone. Darn PG&E. ;P Apparently, a fire of some sort started on the Hayward Cal State campus (probably initiated by the winds) ... and that proceeded to knock out the power all around. Grrrr.
...continuing (much later)
So anyway, what else did I want to say? Oh yeah... It pleases me no end to see that Sparky's particular ripple is quite dynamic! i like reading the weblogs of his friends, though they do vary greatly in style and substance (uh, or lack of same ::chuckels:: -- lovely Kass Typo).
Alejo's weblogs are particularly engaging, and I like how he writes. Then again, I've always had an affinity for distance runners, regardless. ;-) And the newest member of that particular Spark eddy, Vinesh, also looks most promising. I hope they do realize they have an audience far broader than their CVHS milieu. ^_^ Andrew's weblog is also rather interesting, but his Jscript messageline is muy distracting, and the centered text is plain bizarre. If he wishes his weblog to be read consistently, he will take the advice of "Lloydo Wan" (hahaha... that's a new one, guys) and alignleft his paragraphs. Or, he may choose to remain a recalcitrant and insist on his odd style. Ah well, can't convince 'em all! lol. As for Tim, well, I think his friends need to twist his arm some more -- just a little bit, haha -- and get him to really write. I don't doubt he has interesting things to say as well.
but now, it's almost 4 p.m. and I have to go travel to the Central Valley (well, just Livermore, really...) for dinner with the Hunters. the long-awaited "Italian dinner" David and Daniel's mom promised me. cool. :-)
will continue updating later, towards midnight perhaps. bye, all...
