The Amber Spyglass crew, monday edition

hey gang, we've got some takers for our Wednesday literary excursion to San Francisco, for Philip Pullman's reading of The Amber Spyglass. so far Anna, Trev, Jorge and Aaron Paul are coming with me. Evi can't make it... and i haven't heard yet from either Tomas or Tania. as it turns out, you kids in the SFUSD don't have school on Wednesday! it's a teacher in-service day or something like that, so this is most convenient indeed, ne? just do your homework earlier in the day so you can take off in the afternoon and early evening. any others of you who live in San Francisco and would like to come? IM or e-mail me, or just keep reading this weblog for updates.

in fact, if any out-of-towners would like to join us, please do so! Quad, you can always miss discussion section -- again! -- and come with me. ;-) it'll be a nice break from all that dreary schoolwork, eh? problem is, you may have to skip Dan Garcia's lecture as well, given the get-together details, below... but since you're up on the material, i don't feel guilty suggesting playing hooky to you. haha. in any case, act like a college student already: skip some classes. ^_^;> (and if Q does come, perhaps someone else--who in fact HAS read Pullman--might come as well, tee-hee. "someone else:" if parental permission needs to be obtained, i'm more than happy to phone home.)

[for tomorrow's weblog: why The Amber Spyglass is worth reading, and why one should attend book readings from time to time...]

date: Wednesday, Oct. 18
time: 4:30 p.m.
meeting place: La Taqueria 2889 Mission St., at 25th. [website here]

La Taq (as Trev calls it) is two blocks west (i.e., in the direction towards Bernal Heights) of the Mission and 24th Street intersection (BART's 24th St. Station is right there too). according to the website review above, This nondescript Mission Street haunt serves hearty Mexican favorites for pocket change. ::chuckle:: and Trev informed me that their burritos are "watery" but good. watery!? hmm. burrito soup? the concept boggles the palate. ;-)

shortly after 5 we'll start walking up 24th to Cover to Cover Books, and we should get there in plenty of time to find a space to sit or whatever, as there may be lots of people coming to see Pullman. unlike J.K.Rowling, who churns out the Harry Potters every year, Pullman takes a long time... years and years, in between volumes. so, this appearance is relatively rare. if you have any Pullman books, bring one to sign; i certainly will be bringing my Spyglass, and one other very special Pullman book.
