the last month...
for the past few years, October has always been that. my last month here in my Bay Area home before i leave for another half year in my Hawaii home. this means a ramped-up work schedule at ATDP, as the brochure for Summer 2001 needs to be readied and published: courses need to be determined, faculty and instructors figured out, etc. and the thing actually laid out and printed. this also means a last month of getting together with various students and friends, both old and new. so, it'll be a busy time, with a good balance of work and socializing, ere i return to the wilds of upcountry Maui, and to its pristine forests and seashores as well.
and my packed days and weeks here haven't been helped by the awesome fact that 2 of the 4 major league baseball playoffs are pitting the BA (Bay Area) vs. the BA (Big Apple)! and who knows, the possibilities right now include either another Bay Bridge World Series, or a Subway Series. it will, hopefully, be the former, as the Noo Yawk teams have been paltry of late. Go, As!! Go Giants!! Too bad you're down in baseball purgatory right now, Fletcher ;-) you can't believe the atmosphere in baseball circles here in the sfBA right now, man. naturally, I'm gonna try to squeeze in a couple of playoff games, more likely at Network Associates Coliseum (doesn't that sound so weird?) than at PacBell Park (though i AM prepared to pay a 3-digit sum for a World Series game there!). so, here's hoping the Yankee and Met September Swoon continues through October. ^_^
nickNaming...
i never got around to amplifying on my weblog yesterday evening, as the closing ceremonies of the Olympics got my attention. while it wasn't all that captivating, it was interesting enough that i had to bop back and forth between the computer room and the room with the TV, and so my writing focus wasn't all there. anyway, let me just randomly note here what i wanted to write about...
how cool it is that more people are using nicknames for their weblog name lists! a rash of new styles has exploded onto the scene, following the originals (Trev and I started doing this last summer, then when Damien came along he did so as well, and in an often howlingly funny/punny manner). all of a sudden, we have Quad, Spark, Cole and Bigi using the convention, and it's of more than passing interest to me to note the different styles and thematic elements being used.
this is a test.
okay, that worked. it seems that Manila/EditThisPage has a new "feature" (for PC/I.E. users) where a WYSIWYG editing form has replaced the plain old familiar editing window... and it appears to cause severe problems with the HTML code being ignored or improperly parsed.
i'm editing this now in VirtualPC using IE 5, and have avoided the above by (a) making sure I have an Editing Form on my home page -- you have to turn it on, in Prefs --> Appearance (then scroll down to the HOME PAGE section), and (b) using the UPDATE HOME PAGE button instead of the EDIT THIS PAGE one.
BEGIN RANT
lesson for the day: instead of royally bitching about shit when you first encounter a problem, why don't you (a) take a deep breath, and (b) spend valuable time instead looking for a solution to the perceived problem? sure, i agree that this implementation of WYSIWYG is both buggy AND utterly useless, but nothing is really served -- neither your precious homework time, nor your precious peace of mind -- by complaining vociferously about it... to ME!
you know it just aggravates the hell out of me when you use the words "die," "fuck," "hell," "shit" and "[Manila]" all in one sentence/breath. just don't do it. it's not good for my blood pressure, or yours.
END RANT
