monday link collage

this is important.

why? because it's wisdom in progress. we can all benefit from the observations that Tom is making at this point in his life right now. (and yes, Tom, i do mean to suggest and encourage you to continue generating these insights AND sharing them with us in this medium). i wish i had something like this when i was a freshman in college... not only could i have benefited from the collective feedback of friends (and/or strangers), i would have been able to keep a unique record of my intellectual, psychological and social growth. sure, i had sundry journals, letters and other analog tools, but the immediacy and one-to-manyness of this medium is much more dynamic in contrast.

this is important as well.

check out Damien's 7:20 update, item #3. why is this important? until a couple of weeks ago, Damien is someone who would have been a stranger to us all (save Kass). but via the weblogging community we've begun nourishing, he no longer is (to those of us who have been paying attention, that is). i've been doing Internet-related stuff since the late 80s, and this aspect of the Net still touches me: the serendipitous connections human beings make with one another, in a way that was never possible before this digital age. so, to those who haven't made Damien's acquaintance yet, and particularly for those who might like some help with math, do so now! :-)

a filigree of FAQs

just made that up. *chuckle* you know how a bunch of cows or bison is a herd, a group of witches is a coven, several lions together constitute a pride? but did you know that many larks together are an exaltation... or that you say a murder of crows when you see them flying bunched up? anyway, on to the point of this section...

after going through the sub-pages of various weblogs, it occurred to me to put together in one place all the weblog FAQs i could find. it's interesting to see them all as a group, as they vary in style, wit and depth. surprisingly, several common suspects do NOT have faqs (Quad! Fletcher!), or at least i couldn't find them. an FAQ is much more important to have for a weblog than a website, since it's crucial to let first-timers in on exactly why they're reading your weblog, and what it's all about. in Quad's case, i guess, now that he has integrated his websites into his weblog, this is less of a concern. but it's just good netiquette to provide a starting point for newbies to your weblog. here, forthwith, are the ones i could find:

for those of you listed above who may want to change your FAQ titles (from the boring default 'FAQ' that is... ^.^) let me know as well, so i can change it on this list. or, for anyone i missed (or who decided to write a FAQ posthaste) let me know as well so i can add it on here.
