weblog style commentary: kudos to Kass for taking the sensible step of converting her weblog to darktext on a light background. while her weblog look was unique, it was at times awkward to read (particularly on long blocks of text on her otherwise fascinating stories/essays).
there IS a reason why books, magazines, newspapers, etc. are printed the way they are: readability. and to flog a dead horse: weblogs are reading matter. it's perfectly okay for webSITEs or webPAGEs to be in artsy obsidian backgrounds with silver text, or red bgs with lurid text. as for weblogs, which are read frequently (or hourly, as some of us here do), it's a pain to read in colors other than light backgrounds and dark type.
this may be obvious, but to some dissenters here (Quad! Spark!) it apparently is not. if you like black bgs so much, kids, put your money where your mouths are: and keep your weblogs black... and see if people keep reading them as easily as they are doing now.

ok guys -- and yes, i mean just guys... no gals allowed to traverse this link, and i mean it! heheh -- here's something painful to read, from yesterday's Salon: A little off the top, please. i swear, i was wincing all the way through the goldurned article, but for some bizarre reason i couldn't stop reading! *chuckle* enjoy. uh, ah, yeah. lol.
more new weblogs and weblogging activity to report on every day...
Luis Garcia, my Head TA for TIC this summer, has joined the club. look for him as "monterey" on the list to the left. my cousin Aaron Nebres is also working on his, but it ain't public yet. same with Sofia Mohammed of TIC. hopefully we'll see theirs soon. and Tom Bandong said he was working on a revamp to his as well. oh wait... here it is. (as i was writing this update, Tom came online and told me it was here! haha. cool. thanks, Tomas!) i've already put monterey and palaris on the texts list on the left... in anticipation of their regular updates. so get to it, guys, write away...
Kass ('chrysanthemum' for the now) has a new color scheme. check it out. why the change?
Kass Kat: Whoa... what's with Tom Fletcher's away??
LloydinBerkeley: somebody must've spiked his OJ with a psychotropic substance ;-) or, on his way home from Berkeley this afternoon (he came to visit with me for one last time before going off to college. *sniff*) he stopped by a headshop on Telegraph and got, er, 'relaxed' haha
Kass Kat: ::ROFL::
LloydinBerkeley: so... when do you think you're going to work on the colorscheme?
Kass Kat: Oh. Almost forgot 'bout that. ::just finished up an RP scene:: 'll do it now, actually.
LloydinBerkeley: ah. cool!
Kass Kat: Or, rather, right after I remake the "reflections" pic so that it's white... :-)
LloydinBerkeley: hehe. yeah
Kass Kat: You're not going to ask why I "suddenly" decided to invert the colors? ;P
LloydinBerkeley: Didn't really occur to me. But now that you mention it... *chuckle* Why?
Kass Kat: Was going back and forth between my weblog and Spark's/Quad's/yours...
Kass Kat: When trying to decide on a weblog list ...
Kass Kat: And had trouble accepting my black background after seeing all of your light colored ones. ;P Kept flashing... light, light, light, BLACK, light, light, BLACK, light, light...
Kass Kat: Just struck me the wrong way.
LloydinBerkeley: interesting. well, there's a subconsciously 'sombre' feel to any web page with a black bg.
Kass Kat: That too. Reading my past weblog entries... the lighthearted nonsense outnumbers the serious ...
Hey Kass... enjoy the look of OUR weblogs? ;-) this travesty is to be put quite squarely on the shoulders of Quad, who started it all. tee-hee. and, needless to say, which shall not last longer than a day. this look is utterly HORRIBLE! lol. looks like someone died or something. where's the funeral feast? haha
the pallbearers, by the way, include Quad, Spark and Fletcher.
