and this is...?

a question.

here's something i've been wondering about for a while, off and on. it's mostly deep in the back burners of my mind, but days like yesterday make it bubble to the surface with a ferocity that astonishes:

can, or should, a teacher be a friend to his students?

i think Aaron answered this to my satisfaction in a brief, but intense IM convo we had very late last night (well past midnight), and merely confirmed what i had long suspected. and i drew the right conclusion, which just happens to be the one i wanted to arrive at, in the end.

i'd like to know, however, what you think. if you're taking TIC or AIC this summer, be it as a student or as a TA, this can be your last, informal journal question. answer in your own weblog, if you like, or in here on mine.
