another frozen moment...
new weblog of the day: welcome, Littletrev!
another new weblog of the day: welcome, Devin!
cool weblog of the day: aicweblogs!
i love Trev's current weblog entry. of course, i can't help but love a weblog called 'freerascalized' ;-) i also wish you could read the Student reports he writes for his group, which is in the form of a private weblog (4mEo=for my eyes only), as they're marvels of wit and analytical insight. i've learned a lot about 'reading' students just by reading Trev's weblogs about his groupies.
(actually, i love all your weblogs too. particularly the fact that each one has its own distinctive voice, and even 'look' -- notwithstanding the fact that style and design shouldn't be the overweening concern in a weblog, Spark! but good job nevertheless, on your redesign.)
anyway... about the 'frozenness.' one of my weekend weblogs had that pic of Littletrev in it, with the perfectly still orb of the volleyball, while everything else was in motion. today at TIC Soccer, Angel (who right now is ignoring his girlfriend who's IMing him desperately on my iBook, as he's engaged in a vicious podrace vs. Sebulba!) snapped this picture:

unlike the other image, everything here is stopped in time. Marcus looks ready for anything, doesn't he? but as you know if you read Trev's update on the soccer game, he let TWO balls through his legs! uh, Fermezy? why don't you be a striker or forward instead? *chuckle*
anyway #2... on to the meta-commentary. which is obvious: i wish i could stop time right now. this summer has been one of the best for me, and i've been doing ATDP since forever. since the time many of you were still in diapers, in the mid- to late-80s.
it has been really curious... a lot of things that have happened in my classes this summer have made me think about my identity. again. (LOL) and i thought i had left this issue behind a long, long time ago. just goes to show you that you never really stop growing, do you? or maturing/evolving. whatever you wish to call it. this is about as satisfying an idea about life itself that i can wrap my mind around; the entropic notion of decay, parts of us dying as we grow older, even if it is a fact, isn't the most pleasant thing to contemplate.
we do stop ourselves in time, from time to time. ;-) how? well, focusing intensely on website projects or weblogs for instance. plunging deep into IM conversations, either with one person, or with multiples. then we look up, and it's 4:30. or it's dawn. and we wonder where all that good time went. that picture above--as well as many other images from this summer--represents a dual desire: to live in the moment, as well as to keep it forever. often, many adults out there 'in the real world' lose sight of this in the busy-ness of their lives as working people with careers and responsibilities, or parents with children to feed, clothe and house.
i've been lucky, on the other hand, to be working with kids, as far as my own career goes. from you, i've learned to live in the moment and fully relish it, from you i derive my personal fountain of youth. people are generally surprised (if not outright shocked) to know i'm actually FORTY years old! ;-) like i've told some of you, i've lived about three complete lives now, each segment a distinct and separate entity. each a (long) story on its own that i'm not about to bore you with. *chuckle*
anyway #3... to end-up with today's photo-irony, the pic Angel snapped above did not contain Trev's (or Tom's) head. the way the image is framed is an accident... i didn't crop his head out in Photoshop. the irony, of course, being that Trev thoroughly disdains Kodak moments that involve his face. but images like the above, which i suppose are quasi-anonymous, are above his contempt. ;-) so, if any random cyberspace visitor landed on this day's weblog, the guy about to kick the ball, apparently named "trev" will remain safely anonymous. or does he?
tomorrow's weblog (which i wanted to write at least a week ago now): how part of our identities are migrating to, and evolving, on the Net.
