the ATDP servers are down...

part of the Tolman Hall subnet is being worked on, so the ATDP Sun and G4 servers are currently inaccessible. it's 1:45pm PST now, and the tech person I spoke to said the network won't be up again until around 5 pm PST (Saturday, the 24th). not a huge biggie, but it does irk me that they didn't give me notification when they started the work last night, so i could post a bulletin or message to that effect.

sorry about any inconvenience this causes. more updates later. in the meantime, we should all get out and do non-comp related stuff. seeya later!

update, 6:15 pm. the techs say the maintenance work on the Tolman Hall subnet is still ongoing, and won't be over until tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon. double argh! oh well. thank goodness for wireless networking, iBooks, and weblogs that exist somewhere other than on one's own server. :-)

update, 8:18 pm. added a new weblog to the list on the left. Giancarlo's greed1 page. congratulations to Greed for making the right decision by purchasing a brand new computer that perfectly fits the needs of a graphics/design oriented person. ;-) Greed's purchase came shortly after Tom F got his (a graduation present) a week or so ago, and Quad too got his (a present for making it to Cal-Berkeley as a high school junior)? Welcome to the Mac club, GP. ("Gifts" for you this coming Tuesday... ;-)

btw, the ATDP webserver v.2.0 is being served from a speedy G4/500. the old Sun Solaris server which we've had since the early 90s (60 MHz! aaaaa!), though still very reliably serving up web documents with Apache, has now run out of disk space and is distinctly pokey, speedwise. so, the new TIC and AIC web pages will be served off of the G4, currently running OS 9.0.4, and WebStar 3.0. should be even more robust with OS X coming up.
