the colors of telegraph avenue

telegraph ave. vendor: the colors of telegraph avenue

on a lazy Sunday afternoon, i choose to walk up and down Telegraph Avenue, finding images, talking to street vendors, just taking in the scene that's quintessentially Berkeley.

(more pix here... JPGs increment from "tel1.jpg" thru "tel6.jpg")

so anyway, i walk into a cafe, get a cappuccino to go, saunter over to where the sugar and stuff is. there was this woman there who was shaking some chocolate powder onto her coffee. and shaking, and shaking more, and more. weird thing is she was laughing to herself all the while. a strange, strangled kinda giggle. one of my eyebrows slowly arched, as i waited for her to finish. (she was blocking the way to the sugar cannister *chuckle*)

she stopped, seemingly gathering herself. but no. she laughed even harder, and continued sprinkling... no, pouring, more chocolate onto her coffee, so that the surface of the thing was soon a thick layer of brown dust and sludge. she knew i was staring at her with some astonishment, so she merely topped her performance by... opening the top of her blouse, and shaking a bit of powdered chocolate into her bosom. funny thing is... most of the nearby cafe patrons didn't bat an eyelash. well, this is Berkeley for you.
