and this is...?

on this last day, i begin...

...where this weblog ended yesterday:

I am profoundly relieved that my parents and brother made it back to Hawaii safely, and dismayed and saddened at the turn of events back in the Philippines.

I am deeply grateful for friends like Laura, Catherine, Chris and Candace who offered up words and thoughts of concern in their weblogs yesterday... which gave me hope, even though I wasn't here to read them. But I felt them. Out there, I felt them...

I am thankful to Trev for thoughtfully spending time talking to me last night, and in effect releasing me from the gloom and anxiety I had felt all day... whattakid.

And to Candace, who is traveling in this time of awful weather on the East Coast and in England... godspeed, and be safe.

Hehehe... first weblog flipper of the millennium (at least in our circle). ^_^ TR: typically iconoclastic. Setting his default time zone to New Zealand. And this isn't just for today... it's always been like that on his weblog, heh. (Oh, and Trevboy, it's "purists" not Puritans. *giggle*)

5:58 p.m.

The reassuring sounds of activity in my home: dad puttering around the dining room, whistling as he sorts the stacks of mail that came for him and mom over the last month; mom in the study, turning on her laptop so she can check a whole month's worth of e-mail (shudder); bro walking down the front steps to find a photo shop on Front Street to develop the rolls of film they took in the Philippines. I woke up this morning to a sigh of relief, secure in the knowledge that my family was on its way back from Honolulu today. When they arrived here, joy reigned. The beginnings of many days and weeks worth of stories were told, and I wished again that I had been there at the reunion this time. But even now, big plans for next Christmas in the Philippines are already in the air. For now, all eyes and ears are on the real turning of the year/century/millennium...

lloyd in maui: is it usually noisy in the SF Bay Area during New Year's Eve? here, we're expecting the usual clatter of fireworks (lots of them illegal).
Quadoshock: not in my area, hehe
Quadoshock: EC is like 40% retired people, hehe
Quadoshock: nice and quiet ;-)
lloyd in maui: time to put the cat in a box or something, or he'll freak out. hehe. (upcountry it wasn't as noisy last year... down here in town, it's gonna be very loud.)
Quadoshock: hehe ;-)
lloyd in maui: usually, in the mornings, you'll see the roads all RED. littered with the paper casings of thousands upon thousands of exploded firecrackers.
lloyd in maui: each homeowner is responsible for cleaning up the road in front of their house, though. which is a good thing.
Quadoshock: oh, hehe
lloyd in maui: the smoky pall from the fireworks lasts a good several hours, particularly in some parts of Honolulu. which is a serious problem for people with bronchial conditions. not good for them at all.
Quadoshock: it never gets like that around here, hehe...

Awww.... well Quad, I hope you get an explosive surprise anyway, regardless. You know what I mean ;-) Let's see if this "surprise" can actually wangle some computer and net time from the eagle-eyed friends and be online to greet the new millennium properly with ya. Tee-hee.
